Spring Into Action – Volunteer with Meals on Wheels

Calling all Edmonton-area volunteers! Meals on Wheels needs you now.

Over the last year, Meals on Wheels has been facing a volunteer shortage and, unfortunately, the situation is not showing signs of improvement.

“With summer on its way, we know that a lot of our volunteers will have their hands full between balancing time for our organization along with their other commitments,” says Meals on Wheels Community Services Manager Linda Klatt.

You can help Meals on Wheels by signing up for the Spring into Action campaign and becoming a summer relief volunteer. Volunteering with Meals on Wheels can offer big rewards for both clients and volunteers for a minimal time commitment. Volunteer Drivers, for example, help thousands of Edmontonians every year with a time commitment of only 2.5 hours once or twice a week. Other ongoing volunteer opportunities include Kitchen Helpers and Office Assistants.

“Summer relief volunteers make a significant impact on our agency. Not only do they help our clients receive a nutritious meal, but they also give our year-round volunteers the opportunity to take a much deserved summer break,” says Klatt.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life. Students, shift workers, unemployed or retired people all gain valuable experience and personal enjoyment from volunteering at Meals on Wheels. Spread the word to those you know who might have some extra time to give. If you have a couple of hours once a week we would love to hear from you.

Making a Difference

Meals on Wheels Edmonton

Your service is wonderful. I have already lost 4 lbs by eating properly. My doctor and dietitian are very pleased. I look forward to the delicious meals. The volunteers are very professional and always treat me well.”
- Robert J.

"I am so pleased to be able to order Mom’s frozen food delivery through the internet or phone calls all the way from Alabama. She loves the food! Salmon with Maple Ginger Glaze and Spicy Butter Chicken are her favourites. After her 1st order, she ordered three of each the next time."”
- Gertrude K.’s daughter

I love that when I call in with a question on Dad’s billing, you know his name when I mention mine. It shows that you know your clients well.”
