Christmas Fundraising Campaign Aims to Reach $75,000

December 16th, 2011

The Edmonton Meals on Wheels annual Christmas fundraising campaign has been moving steady, however the agency is only 2/3 of the way to reaching its $75,000 goal.

With less than 10 days until Christmas, Edmonton Meals on Wheels hopes that Edmontonians will continue to feel the Christmas spirit by helping the agency raise the remaining $25,000. Generally this campaign has been a success for Meals on Wheels each year. However, 2009 and 2010 saw slow progress to the campaign due to the economy. Edmonton Meals on Wheels believes that this year it can reach the $75,000 mark by December 31.

The money raised from this campaign will help fund the meal subsidy program for low income clients and grocery costs. With the cost of groceries continuing to rise, it becomes increasingly vital that Meals on Wheels receive financial support so as to not increase funds to clientele who are already living on a very limited income.

Liz Tondu, executive director says, “The last two years our Christmas campaign struggled to reach its goal. There was a lot of uncertainty with the economy at that time. However, we have been fortunate enough to see our spring and fall fundraising campaigns this year be successful.” Tondu continues, “Edmontonians are notorious for their generosity. We are asking that people think of us during the holiday season and donate to Meals on Wheels.”

Donations can be made in person at 11111 103 Ave, by telephone at 780-429-2020 or online at www.mealsonwheelsedmonton.org/donate/donate-money/. We ask for Edmonton’s support to help us reach our goal.
