Christmas Fundraising Campaign

December 27th, 2011

Edmonton Meals on Wheels’ Christmas fundraising campaign is in full swing. The agency is asking the community to help them raise $75,000 to support meal programs for seniors, chronically ill and other housebound Edmontonians.

More than 25% of Meals on Wheels clients on the hot meal program require a meal subsidy. The meal subsidy program is funded by donations from the community and gives the client $3 off each meal. A regular “two meal” package costs $10.50 ($7.50 if on meal subsidy) and includes a hot entrée with a vegetable and starch, soup, sandwich, a baked snack, dessert and juice, fruit or salad. These rates have not increased in over 10 years.

However, the cost of food is constantly rising with an increase of just over 15 percent this year alone. More increases are expected in the immediate future due to sharply rising diesel costs. It is becoming more imperative that Meals on Wheels receive financial support from the community in order to sustain services.

Liz Tondu, executive director says, “The money raised during this campaign is vital to our agency. We rely on the support of the community to help us keep our meal costs affordable for people who need our services.”

Donations can be made in person at 11111 103 Ave, by telephone at 780-429-2020 or online at http://mealsonwheelsedmonton.org/donate/donate-money/.

We ask for Edmonton’s support to help us reach our fundraising goal this holiday season.
