Cooking Together
February 2nd, 2012 – February 6th, 2012
Let’s put the excitement back into food!
Boost your culinary knowledge by starting a cooking club and recipe exchange. It’s a great way to bring together friends and a chance to make new ones.
“Cooking clubs can offer a variety of benefits to your emotional, physical, and mental well being,” says Ashley Cattell, dietitian from Philosophy Nutrition & Fitness.
“It offers a fun new way to socialize with neighbourhood friends and form new friendships. It can provide you with extra servings of home-made meals you can take home to freeze and thaw on busier days; or provide leftovers to share with your family.”
Edmonton Meals on Wheels hosts a free lunch and learn workshop the first Tuesday of every month that covers various topics on health, nutrition and food. On February 7, a workshop on cooking clubs and recipe exchanges led by a registered dietitian from Philosophy Nutrition & Fitness is open to the public from noon to 12:45 a.m. at the Meals on Wheels building at 11111 103 Ave.
“As a qualified nutrition expert, I will be able to provide credible nutrition information,” says Cattell.
“I can give tips on selecting and choosing healthy recipes and provide strategies for substituting ingredients in a recipe to make it more nutritious. Also, I’m available to give a step-by-step approach to forming a cooking club in your neighbourhood or community and guidance on how to plan your first cooking club meeting.”
Keep your promise to make health a priority in 2012 and R.S.V.P. to attend the upcoming Meals on Wheels lunch and learn by calling 780-429-2020.
