Picture this: a bubbly volunteer with the urge to inspire those around her. Candace is a Volunteer Delivery Driver who has an infections attitude and a positive outlook on life. A long-time photographer who worked at the Edmonton Journal for 15 years, she now volunteers at Edmonton Meals on Wheels. In addition to delivering meals to our clients, Candace also donates her photography skills to help with various events and campaigns. She says this is one of her favourite parts about volunteering. Learning about clients and taking a picture that they can feel good about is what she is most proud of. When asked what makes her continue to volunteer with Edmonton Meals on Wheels, Candace says “I love delivering meals to my regular route of clients. I have gotten to know them and their stories and they make me feel so special and appreciated. I see the need for this kind of help in the community. Delivering healthy food and a having a nice chat or hug with someone makes it all worthwhile.” Candace likes to sit and take a moment to chat with each client on her route. She believes that this little extra time spent is worth it if she can brighten someone’s day. Outside of volunteering at Edmonton Meals on Wheels, she spends her time with her family which includes her husband, two teenage boys, and two pets. In addition to her family time, she also photographs for other non-profit organizations. As you can see, Candace really enjoys giving back to her community. She loves the positive impact that she has on our clients and hopes to inspire others with talents like hers to volunteer their time as well. We feel lucky to have Candace on our volunteer team, and are proud to recognize her as our Featured Volunteer. Thank you for all you do for us, Candace!
