These two Featured Volunteers followed in their daughter’s tire tracks. Colin and Cheryl started volunteering at Edmonton Meals on Wheels as a backup for their daughter, Jamie, in 2017. Shortly after they began filling in, the duo found themselves with a little extra time on their hands, as well as a lot of enjoyment from what they were doing. Because of this, they decided to sign up as regular Evening Delivery volunteers. They enjoy working as a team (Cheryl does the navigating and Colin does the driving) to deliver meals to their neighbours in need. One of their favourite parts about volunteering with Edmonton Meals on Wheels is delivering to regular clients and getting to know them better. They continue to donate their time because of the appreciation they see from both staff and clients, as well the benefits that they know the meals bring to clients. “We realize that if it weren’t for the Meals on Wheels volunteers, there would be many people not getting adequate nutritious food”, the team explained. Outside of Edmonton Meals on Wheels, both Cheryl and Colin are retired and semi-retired, respectively. They both love to socialize with their friends and family, especially their daughter’s Chow-Chow puppy, which they happily take on walks. They are about to become first-time grandparents and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their granddaughter! Family is very important to them. Through their volunteering, they hope to instill a strong desire in their family to volunteer, by telling them about their positive experiences. “We would like to continue to volunteer for many years to come, and hope we remain lucky to be blessed with good health and mobility so that we can continue.” Thank you for all that you both do, Colin and Cheryl!
