Meet Gord - Our Featured Volunteer for October!

After retiring in 2006, Gord was looking for a meaningful volunteer position in the community and found that perfect fit within Edmonton Meals on Wheels. He is a Volunteer Delivery Driver who regularly offers his time, delivering meals twice a week, during the day. Gord is what some may define as a “Meals on Wheels Champion” having stepped up to the plate many times to fill in for routes outside of his regular hours. It is through this continued service that he has been able to “meet some really nice people, both clients and other volunteers”. Gord enjoys making a difference in the lives of those he’s serving, and says that the most rewarding part is “when a client smiles and thanks you for being a volunteer”. He simply really enjoys giving back. Sharing life experiences with clients and getting to know their background is what he appreciates the most about his interactions with clients. Since he’s been a volunteer at Edmonton Meals on Wheels for over 10 years, he’s had lots of time to get to know those he’s helping! If Gord could give some advice to a potential Volunteer Delivery Driver it would be that “it is a minimal amount of time put in, but a very rewarding experience and you will feel good about it”. Outside of his efforts at Edmonton Meals on Wheels, Gord can be found cheering on the Eskimos, enjoying concerts, or spending time with friends. In addition to volunteering, Gord is also a loyal donor, and regularly contributes financially to the organization. We are thankful and appreciative of Gord’s loyalty and commitment to Edmonton Meals on Wheels, and are proud to introduce him as our Featured Volunteer!
