It’s all about the special, little moments. That is this Featured Volunteer’s favourite part about being a Volunteer Delivery Driver and Store-to-Door Volunteer with Edmonton Meals on Wheels. Jean has been donating her time since 2017 on suggestion by her aunt and has been enjoying it ever since. Jean loves being someone that clients can talk to about their lives when she delivers their meals. “Being part of these small moments for clients is one of the hidden gems of being an Edmonton Meals on Wheels volunteer”, she says. There have been many moments when Jean says that she feels she is making a difference. She says that since the beginning, she has known that the healthy meal and the conversation that she brings to clients is doing some good in their lives. When asked why she continues to donate so much of her time to our cause, she said “The people. Everyone who is involved with Edmonton Meals on Wheels is exceptional.” When she isn’t delivering meals during the week, she runs her business that she owns with her husband, Ross. She loves sports and plays indoor and outdoor soccer, as well as ball hockey. She also cycles and skis, too! Every few weeks she does her Store-to-Door grocery shops for an Edmonton Meals on Wheels client. “We have great chats while we are going over her grocery list as well as when I bring back her groceries and put away what has been purchased. She has a fascinating life story and I feel honored that she feels comfortable sharing with me.” Through volunteering, Jean hope to help make a difference in the lives of others, “one meal and one conversation at a time.” Thank you for all that you do, Jean!
