Meet Katie, Our Featured Volunteer!

This Featured Volunteer takes her mother’s words to heart. “I was always taught to pay it forward and that is something that has stuck with me and shaped who I am as a person”, says Evening Volunteer, Katie. On Wednesday evenings, she drives in to the city from Wetaskiwin so that she can deliver Chef’s Choice Frozen Meals and groceries to confined Edmontonians. One of her favourite parts about being a Meals on Wheels volunteer is getting to know the clients by hearing their stories. “It is quite rewarding to go into the homes of people I do not know and feeling like I may have made a positive influence on their day when I leave.” When asked about her favourite delivery story, Katie said she can’t narrow it down to just one. She says that each client is so unique and that’s what she will always treasure about her volunteer time. Outside of her volunteering, Katie attends university. She also loves to travel and watch her favourite shows on Netflix. She has good friends in her life, some of which she has brought on board to be volunteer, as well. How did she convince them? By telling them how much her experiences have meant to her. “it is a rewarding experience that changes your perspective on how you perceive people. I would also tell them that Meals on Wheels has exceptional staff who work very hard to provide nutritious and delicious meals to isolated individuals.” Through her support, Katie hopes to make a difference in clients’ lives, and we’re sure that she has! Thank you for all that you do, Katie!
