Meet Robert, Our Featured Volunteer!

This Featured Volunteer’s duties have really bloomed! Robert is a Daytime Delivery Driver that also manages, with the help of his wife Elaine, a plot at the Griesbach Community Garden. Together, they donate a large amount of fresh produce to our Grow-A-Row program. From carrots just pulled out of the soil to freshly plucked dill, Robert helps to keep tasty produce in the meals of homebound Edmontonians. In addition to providing home grown ingredients, Robert really enjoys getting to know the community while he delivers meals. When asked what he hopes to accomplish through his volunteering, Robert said “to obtain a better understanding of the community of people that Edmonton Meals on Wheels serves as well as that of Edmonton as a whole. Meeting and interacting with persons from various walks of life is a rewarding, interesting and challenging experience to me.”

Outside of volunteering his time with Meals on Wheels, Robert volunteers with the MS Society of Canada and the Kidney Foundation of Canada. He also does woodworking that consists of making new furniture and restoring old pieces. In the colder months, Robert and Elaine like to travel. Robert likes to talk to clients about all sorts of things. Some clients, he says are quiet, while others “invite you into their lives ready to engage you in what they are doing.” Robert also makes sure to check on the health of the clients he sees. He is a great supporter of many parts of Edmonton Meals on Wheels and we thank him for all that he does!
