This Featured Volunteer is passionate about not just delivering food, but bringing along a little cheer as well. Every Wednesday, Thelma volunteers as one of our Meal Delivery Drivers. She has also taken part in Casino Nights, including the most recent one, which earns a substantial amount for homebound Edmontonians. One of her favourite parts about volunteering for Edmonton Meals on Wheels is seeing her regular clients and knowing that they are getting meals filled with nutrients. “I believe that eating right is very important for health and well-being and I enjoy my clients very much”, says Thelma. She loves that she is able to support those who can’t cook for themselves, but would like to stay in their own homes. Thelma is fond of the clients that she has been able to help. She recently had to take some time off and was touched that upon her return, clients expressed how much they had missed her! On realizing when her contributions were making and effort, Thelma says “I realize it every time I deliver meals and the clients are so glad to see me and have someone to chat with for a short time.” Thelma doesn’t stop at volunteering at Edmonton Meals on Wheels, either. Outside of her meal deliveries, she also volunteers at the Food Bank and the library, as she is an avid reader. She also keeps busy with walking 5-6 times a week, and doing her 95-year-old father’s finances. With being so busy, we are so glad that Thelma donates her time to help our clients.
