Plan Ahead – Food Security During COVID-19

If the need arises to self-isolate or the weather get colder how will you get affordable, healthy meals or groceries?

With the number of COVID-19 cases climbing, as are the concerns felt and expressed by vulnerable people, individuals who are immune compromised, experience a disability or otherwise may be at-risk.  With the cooler weather, more and more people are staying at home.  Venturing out can be risky.

“I am 87 years old and my only son works out of town.  I have no one to help and I am fearful of leaving my apartment by myself.  I don’t know what I would do without Meals on Wheels.”  Lisa recently said.

Edmonton Meals on Wheels offers a variety of Chef’s Choice® meal programs.  All meals are portion controlled, fresh and locally prepared by skilled staff.  Home cooking tastes great!  No matter what your dietary need, we can help you – regular, therapeutic or texture modified diets such as diabetic or renal diets, minced, pureed or cut-up are all available.  As well, a great variety of Chef’s Choice® frozen meals, soups, sides and desserts are available and very affordable. These frozen meals are convenient to keep on hand in the freezer!  Grocery shopping and delivery services are also available to help you get the supplies you need. Rounding out the food services are referrals to other community resources you might need.

Meals on Wheels provides affordable, easily accessible, healthy and nutritious meals and other food programs for all Edmontonians. Young or older, just discharged from hospital, self-isolating or concerned about yourself or your loved one going out or shopping. Let Edmonton Meals on Wheels support you in a time of need.

“I was on Meals on Wheels for one year and it saved my life. The year prior I was suffering from terrible PTSD and severe anxiety. I was too terrified to go shopping or turn my oven on. I started getting meal deliveries seven times a week. The volunteers became friends. I learned to eat balanced meals. It just absolutely saved my life.”- Pam, a former Meals on Wheels client.
