National Volunteer Week is special to us, as it’s a week to recognize all of our hardworking volunteers. We couldn’t operate without the dedicated team who choose to volunteer their time to our cause, and to them, we are incredibly grateful. However, we want to draw your attention to a special group of team members who have certainly proved their loyalty to our clients and our cause. We’re talking about the 21 volunteers who have each spent more than 15 years volunteering at Edmonton Meals on Wheels. Pretty incredible! For well over a decade, this crew has been helping out in a variety of ways, but one thing stays consistent: They regularly take time out of their days to help their homebound neighbours. Whether it’s preparing and packaging meals in the kitchen, delivering meals and groceries to clients, or sitting on our Board of Directors, these volunteers are making sure that their actions are helping senior and homebound Edmontonians. In addition to their regular shifts, this group consistently goes above and beyond. Through volunteering at special events, participating in agency photo or video shoots, financially donating to our cause, or being advocates for Meals on Wheels, this group steps up. And it’s not just us who are thankful for their incredible actions – it’s the clients too. Like Florence who says of her Volunteer Delivery Driver, Georgie, “[Georgie] helps me live at home.” Or the client who called in to tell us how happy she was that her Delivery Driver, Walter, sang happy birthday to her. Just last week, we received a phone call from a client who simply wanted to tell us, “Allen is absolutely wonderful.” A Volunteer Delivery Driver since 1997, it’s clear that Allen has formed some special bonds with the clients he serves! We feel so lucky to have such a great group of dedicated, caring, and kind volunteers on our team. A special thanks to these 21 volunteers who year in and year out, prove themselves as true Meals on Wheels champions. You are truly making a difference!
