Edmonton Meals on Wheels
"I've had a pretty rough time the past 2 years. Seeing the appreciation from the people EMOW serves has helped recharge my soul. It's helped me realize that I can make a difference in the world." - Jay, volunteer

DRIVE, COOK, or CONNECT with Meals on Wheels!

Thank you for considering a volunteer position at Edmonton Meals on Wheels. Volunteers are the heart of our organization. You have spent a lifetime acquiring skills: come share them! Our volunteers are a great team of generous Edmontonians, who all work towards improving food security among our homebound neighbors.

COVID-19 Policy Info:

As an essential service, we pride ourselves in being a healthy team working together in a safe environment. With this in mind, EMOW requires that all prospective volunteers show proof of vaccination to Meals on Wheels staff, further enhancing the health and safety measures currently in place to protect the immunocompromised populations we serve. The goal of this policy is to prevent outbreaks of COVID-19 at Meals on Wheels, to preserve capacity to ensure community meal preparation and distribution, and to protect those working at and for Meals on Wheels and others accessing services and the facility.

Immunization records can be accessed through your AHS online portal or through your pharmacist. Proof of COVID-19 immunization records are visually confirmed; Meals on Wheels will not store your record. Showing staff your immunization record provides consent for us to confirm your immunization status.

Volunteers are welcome at EMOW in three positions:

Delivery Drivers, Kitchen Helpers and Connections Callers

CONNECT to those most in need!

Connections Callers …

provide a lifeline to isolated and homebound individuals. They preserve dignity and choice making the grocery store accessible to everyone through our Grocery Bag program! This is a grocery shopping service, designed for individuals who are unable to shop for themselves and open to everyone. Clients of all ages access our services, for any number of reasons. Volunteers in this role must be open minded, patient, compassionate and comfortable with serving a diverse group of clients. This role takes place at our central location in downtown Edmonton.

You will be a friendly connection to our clients and are welcome to chat with them for as long as you both like! You would be contacting clients to get their grocery list and assist them to place an accurate online order.

Volunteers must be 18 years of age, have an outgoing disposition, great attention to detail and be proactive to ensure clients get the items in the size and/or quantity they have requested!

Clients can order anything that they want, from our partner Save-On foods (any type of food and extras like hygiene items etc...) You may be asked about items that are outside your regular grocery shops – this is an exciting opportunity to learn about someone else’s food culture!

Most volunteers work 1-2 shifts per week in this role. Shifts are Weekdays from 1-4pm. We are looking for a minimum commitment in this role of 3-6 months. (non-consecutively, we can accommodate vacations with notice)
