Once submitted, a Meals on Wheels staff member will contact you regarding next steps.

Volunteer opportunities available for volunteer groups including, corporate, sports teams, and high school clubs – any group qualifies! Various shifts and roles available. Please email contact us for more information.

Meals-on-Wheels Volunteer Driver

Volunteers deliver nutritionally balanced meals and groceries to people from Edmonton and area who cannot prepare adequate meals or shop easily for themselves. Our drivers also deliver hot lunches to community groups.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 18 years of age. Must have own vehicle, be a competent driver, able to climb stairs, lift up to 20lb, have a valid driver’s license, clean drivers abstract, and be willing to submit to a criminal record check and carry valid and suitable insurance. Volunteer Delivery Drivers must have a non-judgmental attitude, be patient, reliable and enjoying working with people from a variety of backgrounds.

LOCATION: Depot Locations vary across the city.

TIME COMMITMENT: Twice a week to once a month depending on volunteer availability.

Hot meal deliveries occur Monday – Friday, 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. Length of delivery time depends on the size and location of the route. Average delivery route takes less than two hours.

Frozen meal deliveries are Wednesday and Thursday evenings between 4:30 and 7:00 pm. Shift time varies depending on size and length of route, but the average route takes less than two hours.

Mileage reimbursements are provided to Volunteer Delivery Drivers for the kilometres driven while on shift.

Kitchen Helper

Help Edmonton Meals on Wheels prepare 200-400 meals each weekday by chopping, peeling, dishing and packaging food, baking and more.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 16 years of age, capable of standing for long periods of time, able to lift up to 20lbs and be comfortable using kitchen utensils such as knives, peelers and other sharp objects. Must demonstrate the ability to work with others.

LOCATION: Edmonton Meals on Wheels Commercial Kitchen, 11111 103 Avenue NW

TIME COMMITMENT: Flexible weekday hours between 6:30 am and 2:00 pm

Meals on Wheels Grocery Shopper

Volunteer Grocery Shoppers buy, deliver and shelve groceries for low income people who cannot shop for themselves. Each volunteer is matched with a client in a preferred location of the city.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 18 years of age. Able to climb stairs, lift and carry up to 25lb, physical ability to stand, walk, and reach for items while shopping. Volunteers are also required to submit a criminal record check, have a valid driver’s license, vehicle and valid and suitable insurance. Volunteer Grocery Shoppers must have a non-judgmental attitude and be friendly, reliable and patient.

LOCATION: Locations vary across the city

TIME COMMITMENT: 2-3 hours, one day a week or three times per month for a duration of six months or more. Shifts will be arranged directly with clients.

Mileage reimbursements are provided to Volunteer Grocery Shoppers for the kilometres driven while on shift.

Timing of the visit and shopping details are arranged by the client and their volunteer. Volunteers may be asked to help with putting groceries away, opening bottles, boxes, reaching objects, etc.

Special Events Volunteer

Special Event Volunteers help at Edmonton Meals on Wheels fundraising events held throughout the year. Tasks may include: set-up, registration, auction support and guest relations.

QUALIFICATIONS: Friendly and patient attitude, reliable, good organizational skills, able to receive direction and work as part of a team.

LOCATION: Edmonton Meals on Wheels Production Centre and various venues throughout the city TIME COMMITMENT: 6 – 50 hours
